The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, disclosed during a press briefing on the Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Development Initiative (PAGMI) that the Federal Government of Nigeria is set to train Nigerian in the production of Gold jewelry.
He said the beneficiaries would be selected from the 36states and they would also train other people in various parts of the country.
Adegbite described, this programme as a comprehensive small scale gold mining development programme of the Federal Government that would further help in the movement to diversify the country’s economy.

The Executive Director of PAGMI, Fatima Shinkafi, said the initiative would empower miners and give them better value in their business.
She said, “the policy was geared towards limiting the negative ramifications in artisanal mining”.
Shinkafi said, “I need to make a distinction here; artisanal mining is not illegal mining”.
“So 30 per cent of those we have registered so far are women, out of the first batch in the pilot states. We are also including women in the processing level of the final stage at the sales and entrepreneurship levels”.
