The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Katsina State, on Saturday, in a low-key ceremony that took place in the four zonal offices of Daura, Katsina, Dutsinma and Funtua local government areas of the state, discharged 987 corps members, extended the services of four and ordered four to repeat their service years.
A press release signed by the state NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Obemeata Alex, and made available to newsmen, said the decisions were in line with the NYSC by-laws for various degrees of offences.
He further announced five outstanding corps members amongst the just concluded 2018 Batch C Stream 2 passing out, who were given state honours in recognition for their excellent and dedicated services.
The state’s NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Ahidjo Yahaya, in a message to the outgoing corps members, enjoined them to utilise the lessons learnt in the service, including the skills acquired in Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.
He further counselled that they stay back in Katsina and engage in meaningful ventures, using the SAED experience, instead of going back home to inconvenience their parents. He added that this will speed up their entrepreneurial efforts.
In a related development, the Special Adviser to the Katsina State Governor on Youth Development and Chairman Katsina State NYSC Governing Board, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu Khalil, has urged youth corps members in the state to embrace entrepreneurship, skill acquisition and self employment instead of waiting for white collar jobs, stressing that the unemployment level in the country currently is very alarming.
