The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) has trained over 5000 women on entrepreneurship across the country in the last five years. The President of Association,and wife of chief of Army Staff, Hajiya Ummul khaltum Yusuf Buratai, disclosed this at the end of a training for 100 women on entrepreneurship in Mutumbiyu, the headquarters of Gassol local government area, Taraba state.
She said the women were trained on various skills and were given starterpacks to assist them in setting up their businesses. She said the association’s effort in empowering women was rooted in its desire to train them to be self-reliant.
Mrs. Buratai said she was optimistic that the skills acquired by the beneficiaries would assist them to improve their economic wellbeing.
She advised the women against selling the packs provided to them and teach their children what they have learnt to also make them industrious.
Meanwhile, the association, under its charity scheme, donated food and other items worth millions of naira to some less privileged people in the community. The beneficiaries included widows, aged and physically challenged persons, who received bags of rice, cooking oil, spaghetti and wrappers. In his address, the Chief of Mutum Biyu, Alhaji Sani Suleiman, thanked NAOWA for the gesture which he said was the first of its kind in the history of the community.
The Royal Father said community was proud of Mrs Burutai, who comes from the chiefdom, and urged the beneficiaries to use the knowledge they acquired to improve their lives.
